In today’s fast-paced IT landscape, managing databases isn’t just about keeping them online—it’s about ensuring performance, availability, security, and scalability across a wide range of platforms and environments. At Eclipsys, the Managed Services DBA team takes on exactly that challenge. We support a diverse set of databases, including Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL, deployed across cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, and OCI, and operating systems such as Linux, Windows, and Solaris. Our DBAs are also responsible for proactively monitoring these environments using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Nagios, and SolarWinds, helping us detect issues before they impact performance. Our role goes beyond traditional DBA tasks—we troubleshoot critical problems, automate routine operations, handle performance tuning, and work directly with customers to ensure their systems are running optimally. In this blog, we’ll take you inside our day-to-day responsibilities, the tools we use, and how we help keep enterprise systems running smoothly and securely. Below are some of the other activities that we perform to provide support for clients using SQL Server and MySQL databases.
In our Managed Services team, DBAs play a critical role in supporting and troubleshooting Oracle databases across a variety of environments. We manage Oracle instances hosted on cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), running on diverse operating systems including Linux, Windows, and Solaris.
To ensure reliability and performance, we use tools like AHF (Autonomous Health Framework) for proactive health checks and issue diagnoses. We also implement Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) for Oracle databases—both on-premises and in the cloud—along with regular key rotation to maintain security and compliance. As part of our security practices, we use DBSAT (Database Security Assessment Tool) to evaluate database configurations, identify vulnerabilities, and ensure adherence to industry security standards.
For housekeeping and diagnostics, we use tools like ADRCI and Oracle’s purgelog utilities to manage and clean up trace files, incident logs, and diagnostic data that can accumulate over time. This helps keep the database environment lean and efficient. We also perform performance tuning, reviewing, and optimizing Oracle SQL code to improve query execution and system throughput. Beyond technical tasks, we actively participate in customer meetings to advise on best practices, validate processes, and provide expert-level Oracle support whenever issues arise.
Our team manages a wide range of SQL Server environments, including Always On Availability Groups for high availability. We support SQL Server databases hosted on Microsoft Azure, and we also handle SQL Server replication, performance tuning, and TDE with key rotation to meet security and compliance needs.
We diagnose and resolve SQL Server-related issues through in-depth troubleshooting, both at the instance and query levels. Whether it's helping customers configure their environments or responding to production incidents, our DBAs ensure that SQL Server workloads run smoothly and reliably.
Customer collaboration is a key part of our process—we regularly join meetings to guide SQL Server architecture decisions, validate deployment plans, and assist customers in resolving any problems that arise.
Our MySQL support covers a broad range of areas, including migration from on-premises environments to OCI and other cloud platforms, deployment of high availability solutions, replication setup, and troubleshooting replication issues to ensure high availability and data consistency. When replication breaks or falls behind, our team investigates the root cause—whether it's a binary log error, network issue, or server misconfiguration—and provides a targeted solution.
We also support the setup of database encryption for data at rest and in transit, deployment of MySQL Enterprise solutions, firewall configuration, and much more. Additionally, we help optimize MySQL performance and advise customers on best practices for MySQL deployments, including backup strategies and fault tolerance mechanisms.
In addition to database support, our DBAs manage the underlying operating systems that host these databases—Linux, Windows, and Solaris. We perform regular housekeeping such as log cleanup, disk space management, and patch application to ensure OS-level stability.
